The Jagdpanzer IV (Sd.Kfz. 162) was a German tank destroyer during World War II. It was built on the chassis of the Panzer IV. The first version of the Jagdpanzer IV was equipped with a 7.5 cm PaK 39 L/48 as its main weapon. The successor version IV/70 (V) received the longer 7.5 cm PaK L/70. The army leadership was so convinced by this variant that they wanted to focus the main production of tank destroyers on this model and planned to build 1,000 units per month. However, due to the long main gun and strong frontal armor, the Jagdpanzer IV was very front-heavy, making it difficult to maneuver in rough terrain and causing frequent defects in the side drive sprockets. This issue was addressed with special steel road wheels featuring internal rubber buffers. Production of the IV/70 (V) variant began in August 1944 and was then used to form new tank brigades, each with a tank destroyer company consisting of 11 Jagdpanzer IV/70 (V) vehicles as standard. Deployments took place on both the Western and Eastern fronts. Thanks to its low silhouette, strong armor, and high firepower, the Jagdpanzer IV/70 was the most combat-effective tank destroyer of the war and could stand up to all enemy tanks.
