Optimized AF based on a newly developed AI processing unit
The Alpha 7R V offers next-generation autofocus with enhanced subject recognition thanks to new AI-based processing that includes deep learning. The state-of-the-art AI processing uses detailed information to assess human body postures. This significantly improves the camera's subject recognition accuracy and fully exploits its potential resolution. Additionally, the AI-based subject recognition has been expanded to include several new subject types, such as vehicles and insects. Alongside advanced AI technology, the Alpha 7R V also optimizes numerous popular features from other Sony Alpha series cameras, now available for the first time in the 7R series from Sony:
- Continuous real-time tracking
- Faster and more precise high-density AF system with a large autofocus area
- Continuous shooting at up to 10 fps and AF/AE tracking
- Silent, vibration-free shooting at up to 7 fps
- High-speed continuous shooting of up to 583 compressed RAW images
Furthermore, the Alpha 7R V features focus functions that support high resolution, such as Full-Time DMF (direct manual focusing available at any time) and focus bracketing, a highly sought-after feature that enables the creation of images with focus stacking.
Exceptionally high resolution, as expected from the Sony Alpha 7R series
The latest BIONZ XR image processor and the Exmor R CMOS 35mm full-frame sensor with back-illuminated design and approximately 61.0 effective megapixels work together to ensure that the Alpha 7R V produces stunningly detailed images. The BIONZ XR processor ensures that the resolution potential of the camera sensor is fully utilized. This allows the Alpha 7R V to achieve the highest resolution at low sensitivity across the entire Alpha series. It enables sensitivity settings from ISO 100 to ISO 32000 for both photos and videos and a wide dynamic range of 15 stops for photos. With a highly precise image stabilization unit, advanced gyroscopic sensors, and optimized stabilization algorithms for photos and videos, the entire image stabilization system of the Alpha 7R V is state-of-the-art. In addition to the compensation effect with 8 stops for photos, the new stabilization algorithm also offers precise, pixel-level detection and control, utilizing the full potential of the 61.0-megapixel resolution of the sensor to extract fine subject details. The pixel-shift multi-shot feature has also been further optimized for Sony's latest camera: this function takes several minimally shifted images in quick succession, which are then combined on a computer into a single image with outstanding resolution. Using the current version 3.5 of the Imaging Edge Desktop application, even the smallest movements at the pixel level, such as changes in the position of the subject or leaves on a tree, are automatically detected and corrected, resulting in a perfectly composed image. From data equivalent to approximately 963.2 million pixels, composite images of around 240.8 million pixels (19,008 x 12,672 pixels) can be created from 16 shots. Furthermore, the Alpha 7R V supports precise and versatile external flash control for even more creative freedom. Photos and videos in challenging lighting conditions are also no problem: the Alpha 7R V effectively suppresses flickering from artificial light.
A range of additional features further enhances shooting flexibility:
- Lossless compression of RAW images, size and quality of RAW images selectable
- Significantly expanded focus and exposure bracketing
- Creative Look settings available for photos and videos
- High-quality HEIF images with high compression efficiency
- Wide brightness range when displayed on a large monitor
Videos with a cinematic feel
The Alpha 7R V shines not only with outstanding photo features but also with advanced video capabilities. With 8K 24/25p videos, 4K video oversampling from 6.2K without binning, highly efficient MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 encoding, intra-recording, 4:2:2 10-bit recordings, and more, Sony's latest camera ensures excellent image quality and flexible editing. Additionally, the Alpha 7R V offers advanced subject recognition for the most reliable real-time tracking yet, breathing compensation, the ability to use camera metadata for post-production, and advanced built-in image stabilization. In addition to the camera's built-in image stabilization in Active mode for smoother handheld shots, the Alpha 7R V is also compatible with selected lenses that feature built-in image stabilization for extra shake-free shots.
Excellent operability and reliability
The Alpha 7R V combines professional reliability with a compact, lightweight design. The camera features an electronic viewfinder with 9.44 million dots and a new four-axis multi-angle LCD monitor that combines the advantages of a conventional tilting screen with the flexibility of a side-folding, rotating, and tilting display. Additionally, the Alpha 7R V has two CFexpress Type A/SDXC-compatible media slots and a brand-new menu system with touch controls and a wide range of customizable features. With state-of-the-art connectivity options, the Alpha 7R V makes it easier for professional users to work. Data can be transferred at high speed via a 2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi connection (802.11ac) or wired via the USB-C port, which is compatible with SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps. The new USB streaming features not only allow for efficient remote shooting and the transfer of photo and video files but also support UVC/UAC: users can stream directly from the camera, even in 4K resolution (QFHD) with audio. In line with feedback from professional users, the Alpha 7R V offers optimized heat dissipation for longer recording times, an improved dust and moisture-resistant design, a robust magnesium alloy body, and further optimizations. This ensures reliability even under challenging working conditions. Additionally, the Alpha 7R V is compatible with the new screen glass protection film PCK-LG3, which protects the LCD monitor from stains and fingerprints without compromising touch sensitivity.
