You are the Vice-King - a leader tasked by the Burnt Queen to reclaim the wilderness and discover lost riches for the Smoldering City, the last bastion of civilization against the firestorm that has destroyed the old world. Unlike most survival city-building games where you focus on a single city, in Against the Storm, you must build a vast, thriving network of settlements populated by various fantasy races, each with their own specializations and needs.

The wilderness holds many hidden dangers, and relentless storms will bring your population to its knees. If your settlements fall, the expedition may end, but the game does not. Against the Storm is a rogue-lite city-building game, meaning you carry over the resources, upgrades, and experiences from your past expeditions when you embark on a new journey into the wilderness.

Manage a diverse population
Beavers and lizards fight alongside humans and harpies for survival. Utilize the strengths of each of these groups to balance different needs. These range from housing and culinary preferences to desires for luxury and recreation. Craft raincoats, brew beer, and bake cakes to boost the morale of the population in the face of the forest's oppressive hostility, or will you prioritize the needs of one species over another to act more swiftly for the Burnt Queen?

Experience classic city-building gameplay enhanced by the replayability of a roguelite. Build and manage multiple settlements on a large world map while gathering valuable resources to improve the Smoldering City. Strive for your reputation to secure your success in one settlement before founding another. Constantly seek new growth opportunities, take on unique challenges in different biomes, and face the inevitable destruction of everything except the Smoldering City itself. With hundreds of game modifiers and 6 different biomes, each city location presents even the most resourceful Vice-King with unique challenges. Adapt your strategy to changing weather conditions and experiment with different settlement variations. Various building designs and advantages can lead your society to success or drive it to ruin. Will you take on additional tasks and fulfill them, delving deeper into the dangerous forest to find potential blessings, or will you exercise caution to ensure you act within your means? One never knows what goods to expect from the merchant in the coming year, and the forest holds treasures and resources, but also ancient threats.
