King Rhobar II needs large quantities of magical ore to forge powerful weapons, and for this reason runs mines in Khorinis with all available prisoners.

To keep these prisoners from escaping, the monarch commissions his best mages to conjure a magical barrier. But something goes wrong. The magic gets out of control and a mutiny turns the mining valley into a lawless area ruled by the most brutal inmates.
The king must now negotiate with the new owners, while tensions between the various factions in the mining valley itself boil up. But what no one expects: The arrival of an unnamed prisoner will change everything.
