Tick alert!

How to protect yourself from the nasty bloodsuckers

Stefan Bolliger
25.04.2023

It's that time again - the ticks are on the march! With spring and summer, these nasty bloodsuckers come out of hiding again and lie in wait for unsuspecting victims. But don't worry, with a few tips and tricks you can effectively protect yourself from ticks and enjoy nature without worrying.

First of all, what are ticks anyway? They are small arachnids that feed on our blood. They are also carriers of dangerous diseases such as Lyme disease and TBE. But don't panic, with a few simple steps you can minimize the risk of tick transmission.

Tip number one: Wear light-colored clothing. Ticks are much easier to spot dark spots on light-colored clothing than on dark clothing.

Tip number two: Use tick repellent. There are many different products that can repel or even kill ticks. Sprays, creams, or even natural oils like lemon or eucalyptus oil can help.

Tip number three: inspection after spending time in nature. After a walk or trip into the countryside, be sure to check yourself thoroughly for ticks. Especially in places like the armpits, on the back of the neck, behind the ears and between the toes, ticks can hide.

And last but not least: If you notice that a tick has already bitten into your skin, remove it as quickly as possible with tick forceps or a tick card. Avoid removing the tick with bare fingers or oil, as this can increase the risk of disease transmission.

So, pay attention and be well protected through the summer! With these tips, you can effectively protect yourself from ticks and enjoy the outdoors without worry.
