The noise reduction of the back-illuminated sensor, the seamless on-chip lenses, anti-reflective coating, the elimination of the optical low-pass filter in front of the sensor, and other original technologies enable high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise, and a wide dynamic range.

BIONZ XRTM image processor

Pixel Shift Multi Shooting for variable conditions
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting allows for images with varying pixel counts through precision control of the built-in image stabilization, which can then be composited on a PC for brilliant resolution in a single image. Compositions from 16 images with approximately 240.8 million pixels (19,008 x 12,672 pixels) can be generated from data with about 963.2 million pixels.

Anti-flicker system
Flicker caused by artificial light is automatically detected, and the timing and speed of the mechanical or electronic shutter are precisely controlled to minimize this effect.

Selectable RAW image sizes and HEIF
Three sizes (L/M/S) of lossless RAW compression include M and S outputs at the same resolution (26 MP/15 MP) for full-frame and APS-C, ensuring seamless workflows. The Light mode for JPEG and HEIF produces images that are easy to share.

The AI processing unit supports human detection through learned data about human shapes and postures, as well as the recognition of non-human subjects like animals, insects, and vehicles. The performance of AF with detection and tracking in real-time is thus improved, making subject recognition and tracking through fast hybrid AF much more precise and reliable.

Classification of human poses using a skeleton model
The new AI processing unit of the Alpha 7CR uses subject shape data for accurate motion detection, significantly improving eye detection in humans. The technology for classifying human poses recognizes not only eyes but also head and body positions with high precision. This allows focusing on a subject that is turned away from the camera or whose face is partially obscured by a helmet or sunglasses.

Recognition of many different subjects
AI processing enables the recognition of various subjects, such as the eyes of an even greater number of grazing and small animals and birds. The new combined animal/bird setting eliminates the need to switch. Just like insect heads, cars/trains and airplanes are recognized entirely or at the front end.

Continuous real-time tracking
AI-based real-time tracking can be activated through subject selection and half-pressing the shutter button. The camera automatically captures the subject. This allows the user to focus on composition and framing. Subject recognition and reliability have been significantly improved for further shooting situations.

Wide-area high-density AF reliably captures subjects
The BIONZ XR Engine and updated algorithms provide significantly improved performance of the fast hybrid autofocus. Up to 693 phase detection points cover approximately 79% of the image area. This allows even small subjects to be captured precisely. The Alpha 7CR combines phase detection and contrast detection AF, focusing quickly and stably even in simple AF (AF-S) mode.

High-precision AF down to EV -4.0 even in dark scenes
The latest AF algorithm enables AF shooting in low light conditions, at EV -4.0 (AF-S, ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens) even in dark scenes and indoors, and offers a useful focus priority mode.

Full-time DMF
When taking photos with AF-C or AF-S autofocus, you can switch directly to manual focus mode at any time by turning the lens focus ring. This makes it easy to shift focus to another subject.

Focus bracketing for the perfect shot
The camera automatically captures up to 299 images with shifted focus points at defined intervals and sequences. You then select the perfect image. In post-processing, you can creatively compose images with incredible depth of field.

AF/AE continuous shooting at up to 8 fps
Continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking is possible at up to 8 fps with mechanical shutter or 7 fps with silent shooting. This captures even brief movements or changes in expression in detail. The performance of the BIONZ XR Engine allows continuous shooting of over 1,000 JPEG images to capture important moments.

Mobility for HD video recording
The Alpha 7CR offers detailed 4K quality in video recording with 6.2K oversampling combined with the necessary mobility for shooting with gimbals or drones. Additionally, it features S-Cinetone™ for cinematic look, log shooting, real-time tracking with optimized subject recognition, active mode image stabilization, breathing compensation, and many other enhancements.

4K 60/50p recording in full-frame
The latest BIONZ XR processor and revised algorithms provide significantly improved video quality. In addition to focus support, the optimized AI processing unit of the camera is utilized to enable precise white balance even when the subject is in shadow. Skin tones, foliage, and other materials are rendered in consistently natural colors in almost every exposure, and gradations such as light fall-off in portraits are particularly lifelike.

6.2K video oversampling for stunning 4K images
4K video recording is possible in full-frame and Super 35 mm. With full pixel readout without pixel binning, about 2.6 times the necessary data can be compressed into 4K with high resolution and detail while minimizing moiré and aliasing effects.

S-Cinetone effortlessly delivers a cinematic look
Sony's S-Cinetone Picture Profile provides more faithful color reproduction and skin tones, with natural midtones for healthy-looking skin as well as soft colors and great highlights that create a cinematic look without color correction.

Log recording and LUT
The Alpha 7CR features an S-Log3 gamma curve to maximize dynamic range of over 14 stops. Settings for the S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color spaces offer more control in post-production. Selected LUTs (Lookup Tables) allow for previews of processed recordings.

Active mode image stabilization for handheld video recording
The active mode enables precise stabilization for video recordings through innovative gyroscopic sensors and optimized algorithms. Camera shake is detected and compensated by compatible objects working together with the camera for greater stabilization.
