To ensure backward compatibility with older tape formats, the drives for the LTO Ultrium 5 format can also read and write LTO 4 tapes and read LTO 3 tapes. The LTO 5 format also enables hardware-based encryption for better protection of sensitive information during transport and archiving.
The generation (Ultrium 5) has a capacity of up to 3 TB (compressed 2:1) and a transfer rate of up to 280MB/s.
