Nikkor Z lenses open up a new dimension of optical performance. They benefit from the outstanding flexibility provided by the larger Z mount with its inner diameter of 55 mm and the short distance from the mount connection to the sensor plane (flange focal distance) of 16 mm. The lenses offer high sharpness for both photo and video recordings. Both focus breathing (the change in angle of view when focusing) and the focus adjustment during zooming have been minimized. The autofocus operates very quickly and almost silently, and the control ring can be assigned various functions. The focal length range from 24mm wide-angle to a slight telephoto of 70 mm covers a wide variety of scenes and subjects. The imaging performance sets completely new standards for zoom lenses with a brightness of 1:2.8. The elaborate construction with 17 lenses in 15 groups suppresses various imaging errors across the entire distance range—from close-up to infinity. The Nikkor Z 24-70 mm 1:2.8 S achieves high resolution and excellent reproduction of point light sources even in the corners of the image and at wide open aperture. It offers even better imaging performance and is over 250 g lighter than the comparable F-Nikkor lens. By using the Multi-Focusing System, high image quality is maintained up to the close focusing limit of 0.38 cm across the entire zoom range. Two ED glass lenses and four aspherical glass lenses additionally ensure exceptional aberration correction of the lens. The use of Nano Crystal and ARNEO coatings provides unmatched reduction of ghosting and stray light. With the OLED information display, aperture, distance setting, exact focal length, and depth of field extension can be checked directly on the lens. Up to 21 different functions can be assigned to the new function button (L-Fn) of the lens, including AF memory, exposure measurement method, AE memory, and more. The entire lens, including all moving parts, has been meticulously sealed against dust and moisture ingress, making it ready for professional challenges at any time. The front and rear lenses are coated with a dirt-repellent fluorine coating. The configurable control ring can be used in autofocus mode to adjust ISO sensitivity or exposure compensation.
