Window putty is a plastic, solvent-free sealant based on linseed oil and synthetic resin. It cures by reacting with moisture in the air. The material adheres well to primed metals, hardwoods, glass, and other common building materials. Its main applications are sealing single glazing in wooden and steel frames, especially for renovations and repair glazing. The sealant can be painted or varnished. For application, a stable, dry, and clean substrate is required. The edges should be protected with suitable tape. The recommended joint size is at least 10x10 millimeters and at most 25x25 millimeters. The fresh putty joint must not be treated with water or smoothing agents. The material must be painted over within a defined period. Curing is highly dependent on ambient humidity. The first overcoating can be done no earlier than 7 and no later than 21 days. Paints and varnishes with strong solvents such as xylene are unsuitable.
