Living in the 21st century requires more than just a roof over your head. The concept of "intelligent houses" not only offers new possibilities to use different media or devices interactively, it also makes life more comfortable and safer and also helps to save energy costs. The prerequisite is always the networking of different devices with each other or with the Internet.
The RJ-45 connection (Ethernet) is playing an increasingly important role here. Today it is no longer reserved for computers, but is used in more and more devices, be it TV sets, games consoles or washing machines. The Ethernet network is THE future-oriented infrastructure solution.
This trend has been taken into account with a newly created standard. EN 50173-4 describes the professional installation of application-neutral communication cable systems in homes. Such an infrastructure, called structured cabling in technical jargon, guarantees a maximum data rate with minimal susceptibility to interference and thus offers an advantage over conventional, application-specific cabling.

New ways: UCHOME Cat.7 cables

Practitioners know that expanding existing home cabling is usually difficult due to a lack of space. The new, ultra-compact Cat.7 cable UCHOME SS26 solves this problem. Despite its diameter of just 5.8mm, the cable meets all the requirements of the IEEE 802.3 standard for applications up to 10GBase-T and for the EA channel up to a length of 60m. This cable is therefore not only the first choice when it comes to retrofitting in empty conduits that are already in use, but also when the smallest bending radii have to be implemented.
The Prysmian Group (DRAKA) is also breaking new ground in terms of packaging: The UCHOME Cat.7 cable is delivered in patented REELEX® packaging. With this packaging, 350m of the cable is wrapped in a handy cardboard box without twisting. The cable can be easily pulled out of the box. Tangled cables in the last few meters and disposing of the drum are a thing of the past. In the end, all that remains is a cardboard box that can be disposed of easily and in an environmentally friendly manner.
