Pure sunlight is polarized and has a high color purity. When penetrating the atmosphere, however, a part of it is scattered. As a blue-gray haze, this scattering overlays all colors and becomes clearly visible through photography. The polarizing filter reduces this haze and makes the colors stronger and fuller. In addition, the filter removes unwanted reflections from smooth surfaces.
