Instead of drawing in front of mountain ranges, she depicts Appenzeller alpine herds against American skylines. Instead of on paper, the animal scenes are created on solid wood boards or burlap.
Irene Hofstetter works on a painting for up to a hundred hours until everything is perfect and harmonious. In the meantime, she has plenty of time to come up with stories for the animals she draws. This is how her written and illustrated children's book about the goat Laura came to be, with surprising details that also make many adults smile.
