Description

A frequency-modulated signal can be generated at high frequencies with the aid of an oscillator circuit whose frequency-determining resonant circuit contains a voltage-dependent capacitance, typically a capacitance diode, to which the modulation signal is applied as a signal voltage. This changes the capacitance of the diode and thus also the resonance frequency of the resonant circuit. FM at low frequencies is easier to generate with voltage controlled oscillators.
