The setting: SE.RA.PH, a virtual world created on the moon. After 128 of the world's top hackers gained access to this realm, they forged contracts with Servants—digital beings embodying historical figures and heroes. In their new roles as Masters, the hackers engaged in a brutal battle for the Holy Grail, an all-powerful device capable of granting any wish. One of these fighters, who has lost all memories and doesn't even remember why he's on this virtual battlefield, finds himself in the role of a Master and must participate in the cruel Holy Grail War of the Moon, with only a single Servant by his side. Only his will to survive drives him.

After 16 years, the first RPG in the Fate series returns, newly crafted for a new audience and longtime fans alike. Based on Fate/EXTRA, originally released in 2010 for the PlayStation Portable, Fate/EXTRA Record offers an expanded narrative, enhanced character design and graphics, as well as a completely new strategic combat system that combines turn-based battles with a unique deck-building system.

You suddenly find yourself in the midst of the "Holy Grail War of the Moon," and must step into the role of a Master. Make a contract with one of three Servants: Saber, Archer, or Caster. Your chosen Servant will assist you in the vast dungeons as your bond grows stronger and you acquire new cards and abilities. Defeat other Masters and Servants who stand in your way.
