Since most bikes are already equipped with a dynamo, this question only arises if you have to retrofit your bike with a lighting system. Dynamos, especially hub dynamos, are usually low-maintenance and easy to use. As an alternative, there are lights that run on batteries or rechargeable batteries. Their advantage is that they are easy to install and reasonably priced. On the other hand, you always have to make sure that there is enough power available while you are driving. If you want to retrofit your bike with a lighting system that is operated by a dynamo, you should again make sure that this has an integrated parking light. Because this is how you will also be perceived when you are at a traffic light and the dynamo is not being driven.
